As You Desire Me (1932)
Greta Garbo, Melvyn Douglas, Erich von Stroheim
Budapest bar entertainer Zara is a discontented alcoholic who is pursued by many men but lives with novelist Carl Salter. A strange man (Tony) shows up on Salter's estate claiming that Zara is actually Maria, the wife of his close friend Bruno. Maria, Tony claims, had her memory destroyed during a World War I invasion ten years ago. Zara doesn't remember but leaves with Tony to Salter's dismay. Bruno, now an officer in the Italian army, tries to coax Maria's memory back on his large estate. No one is really sure if Zara is Maria, and when Salter shows up with a mental case that he claims is the real Maria, everyone on Bruno's estate is desperately searching for the truth.

Not really the movie's fault but this had to be a script and a director from the silent era and it was never intended to be a talkie.
I actually like Garbo in comedy (Ninotchka). This was way melodramatic. The characters' behavior was. unintended comical. How things changed in just another few years
The DVD was excellent : sound and picture ... But when it was over, I just thought "sheesh."

The story is very interesting, but the acting is a little too melodramatic. The DVD played well, and the sound, and picture were good.

I love Garbo movies. I saw it a long time ago and wanted my family to see it. It was hard to find in dvd format. Zeus Dvds has rare movies. I was so happy to find it. The dvd is in good condition, it arrived earlier than expected and plays well. It will make a great selection for our Family's Movie night.
