The movie quality is good, the picture is crisp and the sound clear. It is an older movie, and is a delightful story. The inside story of what it takes to have a career on the stage to be successful, and what you have to give up to accomplish it.

The blaring music during this film's opening credits is in contrast to the story's quiet smoothness. An American actor, superbly played by Anthony Franciosa, is determined to succeed in Broadway's theater scene after World War Two. While he studies his craft and pursues contacts that can help him to land an acting job, he sacrifices personal happiness and his marriage. Shirley Maclaine and Dean Martin excel as influences on his life as he encounters one obstacle after another. Only his agent, wonderfully portrayed by Carolyn Jones, remains faithful to him during his climb to success. The film is totally believable and held this viewer's keen interest.

Loved this movie. All the performances are stellar. Dean Martin's dejection at the end of the film, the look in his face as he confronts his future, is priceless. Have no idea why this isn't better known. Very beautiful noirish shots and why oh why isn't Hollywood like this any more? Well, the world has changed....
