Golden Dawn (1930)

one of those films that is so bad that it's great!! Lots of songs and dances. And Vivienne Segal seems to have had the best recorded soprano (along with a great figure) of the early talkie musicals. A shame that she didn't make it bigger in films. (But she became Broadway's gain.) This operetta takes place in Africa, but the actor who plays the villian is clearly Caucasian, and in blackface. And he speaks his part with "yessurs" and "dems", as if he were coming off the showboat in the deep south of the USA! Very strange, as is the plot, but as I said before, you need to purchase this, in order to believe it.
