The original is the best, and Wally Cox is a fantastic addition, but the first one, in my opinion is a bit bit better, as the deletions made do weaken the show.

I purchased this to use to teach a theater class for international students who speak Chinese. It has been wonderful for that purpose and delightful to watch over and over. What makes it work so well is that the story is based on a very simple folk tale: The Princess and the Pea, so it is easy to show students the relationship between the original story and the play. Not only that, but the actors enunciate, making their words accessible to non-native speakers, and the humor transcends culture and is funny without obscenities. The production on a real stage before a real audience allows me to find examples of different staging techniques. And then there's Carol Burnett. Need I say more?
