Paris brûle-t-il? (1966)

As a very young man I was in Paris when the movie Is Paris Burning? opened. It was a big deal as it should be, celebrations and simulated fires (of neon) everywhere. If another Nazi General had been in command in 1944, Paris most likely would have been destroyed. This particular General had never disobeyed Hitler, but this time he did. He knew the Nazi cause was lost and didn't want to go down in history as the man who destroyed Paris. The liberation of Paris, with all the factions involved, is not an easy story to relate on the screen. The movie doesn't do the best selling book justice, however it's a worthy endeavor deserving more praise than it has received through the years. A shorter less rambling version would be better. I highly recommend seeing it though, a great history lesson! The International cast includes Jean-Paul Belmondo, Charles Boyer, Leslie Caron, Kirk Douglas, Gerte Frobe, Glenn Ford, Anthony Perkins, Orson Welles and many others.
