Nervous ordering from zeus becuz of reviews. I knew i was getting a dvd of an old vcr copy, but that's not the point-I got an irreplaceable memory when it is just not out there.Zeus was prompt professional and very honest about what they do and how they do it.Who order again in a heartbeat!

  2. The quality of the DVD is great 5 Star Review

I own the VHS tape of Paul and Michelle but I needed a fine copy of the movie on DVD. This movie is hard to fine and the copies that I have found are not great. The reason is that the cinematography and color quality of the VHS are not too hot. Those who have transferred the video tape to DVD have tried to improve things by playing with the contrast or overdoing the flesh tones. This copy by Zeus is very close to the VHS version. I know this because I own the VHS tape and have compared it with the DVD copy I bought from Zeus.

  3. Best picture quality of all I've found for this film... Paul and Michelle 5 Star Review

Posted by on Nov 10th 2015

In 1972, the sweet, yet (at that time) controversial little film "Friends" was made. Two years later, in 1974, the sequel, "Paul and Michelle" appeared in theaters. The sequel continued that story of what happened to two very young lovers who become separated at the finish of the first film, but reunite and ultimately attempt to live together as adults in difficult financial times with challenging responsibilities. The movie is bitter-sweet and sad.

I want to focus on the product, the DVD sold by Zeus, which was yet another of 5 other attempts of mine to get this film which can be had from Amazon.com only as a VHS Cassette or from several the other vendors I bought from as VHS to DVD transfers in 4:3 aspect ratio.

Whereas "Friends" with music by Elton John has been released by iTunes, Amazon.com, CinemaNow and a few other sources in mp4 file format in wide screen and HD (1080p pixel density), "Paul and Michelle" has not been released and may never be released in wide screen HD by Paramount.

I own the video tape of "Paul and Michelle". In searching for a great transfer to DVD, I have found a terrible one, one faded and blurry, one overly contrasty, and one just a bit dark. The copy from ZeusDVDs which is my 5th attempt to find the best is the winner. The film is still 4:3 aspect ratio and is just about as good in quality as the VHS version. It is bright and the colors are clear. There is some pixelation here and there in certain scenes but it is a pleasure to watch. It comes from Zeus on a 4.7 GB DVD with the ability to pick Scenes on a menu at the beginning of the film. If you enjoyed "Friends", you cannot lose by getting this sequel which does not end on the happiest of notes, I want to tell you.

Incidentally, I wrote to the actor of Paul in 2014 and 2015, Sean Bury, and he wrote me back 3 letters, one of them about why he never made a third movie about the star-crossed lovers. He said that he felt "that some things are best left alone."

Anicee Alvina, the beauty in these films died of lung cancer in 2005 at age 52. "Friends" and "Paul and Michelle" are the two best movies that she ever made with director Lewis Gilbert who was the director of two James Bond movies. If you loved Anicee in "Friends", it is enough reason to buy "Paul and Michelle" if only as a tribute to her life. Thank you Zeus for sending me this fine reproduction on DVD in a plastic case and plastic bubble wrap via USPS. Milo did his best to make a great product!
