Breaking with tradition, and despite its up to the minute country & western soundtrack, this Ken Curtis musical Western is set in the Old West of 1890. Jean Warren (Jeff Donnell) and her father Andy (Andy Clyde) arrive with their travelling medicine show in the town of Crescent City. Their arrival coincides with the swearing in of a new sheriff, Jean's childhood friend Curt Chambers (Curtis). Along with his deputy, Big Boy Frazer (Guinn "Big Boy" Williams), Chambers is battling nasty casino owner Steve Brady (Kenneth McDonald) and crooked mayor Sylvester Smith (Dick Elliott). Brady and Smith manage to turn Jean against her friend, and when Chambers decides to run for mayor, Jean announces her own candidature. But instead of splitting the vote as the villains had hoped, Jean is predicted to win. Sheriff Chambers calls the villains' bluff and Jean drops out of the race to become his wife. Although popular with rural audiences, this Columbia Pictures series failed to make Curtis a horse opera star. Perky Columbia starlet Donnell co-starred in five of Curtis' eight Columbia Westerns while country & western singing group the Hoosier Hot Shots appeared in all of them.
