The second of the Whistler movies again sees Richard Dix as the main character; this time we follow him as a down-and-out who sees a way to strike it rich by claiming a missing man's identity.
The first half of the movie, in which Dix meticulously researches the man he will impersonate, does an admirable job of creating tension as it builds up to the actual con job at a bank. The second half, where in typical noir style he finds that his new identity has some deadly strings attached, is less focused but throws in some surprisingly well-motivated villains and a plucky reporter love interest.
Short and sweet, The Mark of the Whistler is another hour well spent from the radio spin-off series. The Zeus DVD is a very good transfer and is of good quality throughout.
