  1. The magic is Ms. Susanna Foster 4 Star Review

Posted by on Nov 11th 2023

Ms. Foster is a "hoot", as she plays "Toodles LaVerne, a burlesque queen, who also happens to be a coloratura soprano. When the police raid the burlesque house, she is rescued by Allan Jones, who takes custody of her, so that she doesn't have to go back to reform school. Instead, he places her in a music camp. Ms. Foster's impersonations of Hepburn, Dietrich, Wee Bonnie Baker, and Zasu Pitts (!!) are "dead on", and the finale of the film, with the cast of "Carmen" competing with the cast of "Faust", is very, very clever. It is a shame that Ms. Foster was, (supposedly) very tempermental, and had mental issues, or she could have given
Deanna Durbin a run for her money.
