Ben Blair (played as a boy by Gordon Griffith and as a young man by Dustin Farnum) grows up on a ranch owned by John Rankin (Frank A. Bonn) and is determined to bring his father, Tom Blair (Fred Burns), to justice for the death of his mother, Rankin's wayward wife. He grows up with Florence Winthrop (Winnifred Kingston) as a childhood sweetheart, but when her grandfather dies, her family goes back East. Mrs. Winthrop (Virginia Foltz) wants to marry her daughter off to a decadent young man of high social standing. But Blair, who has dealt with his father, comes after Florence and insists that she return West with him. She hesitates at first, but ultimately agrees.
