The story complicated- musician father presumed dead for years, stepfather trying to do right by boy who just wants to play trumpet and still haunted by loss of father. Friend knows something but hesitant to act.Everyone keeps things to themselves, but sharing feelings and knowledge brings resolution. The actors are all better than the contrived story. Dan Duryea as a mentally and physically challenged musician, Tommy Sands as the struggling boy, Chris Robinson as the friend,a similar character to the one he played on 12 O’Clock High,Frank Overton as the well meaning stepfather, and Jane Wyatt again typecast as the mother, but with a bit more meat to the role than usual. Note she was also in Boomerang, where Frank Overton made his uncredited movie debut.
