A salute to the work of emergency doctors and to ambulance crews, police, and fire fighters. We meet an emergency doc, usually an intern, and we follow a day that starts at 8 a.m. with routine work. Sometimes, an emergency, such as a fire, is great enough that the doctor is part of the ambulance crew. Other times, he waits in the ER for the crew, well-trained in first aid, to bring victims. We visit the site of an industrial accident where help for one man has come too late. The film ends with an emergency call that turns out well.
