Laughing At Danger (1924)
Richard Talmadge, Joseph W. Girard, Joseph Harrington
This Richard Talmadge action picture based its premise on a current event -- in Great Britain, a "death ray" machine had recently been invented. After the breakup of a love affair, Alan Remington (Talmadge) is despondent. In an attempt to snap him out of his doldrums, his father, Cyrus (Joseph W. Girard), tries adding a little excitement into his life. Alan takes everything that happens to him in stride, believing it's part of his father's plan. What he doesn't realize is that a death ray invented by Professor Leo Hollister (Joseph Harrington) has been stolen by foreign spies, and because Cyrus was sponsoring the professor, Alan is caught in the middle of all the intrigue and danger. By the time Alan figures out that something is really wrong, Hollister and his pretty daughter, Caroline (Eva Novak), have been kidnapped. Alan goes to the rescue, and with the help of the U.S. Navy, he saves the day.
