One of Kevin McCarthy's best roles was as the hero of "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Here, as a young musician, he channels that same scariness in a film not as well known as it should be (it was previously a TV play with DeForest Kelley and Paul Kelly in the roles handled by McCarthy and Edward G. Robinson in the movie). It starts with McCarthy waking from a nightmare of murder which, bit by bit, seems to be confirmed by actuality. Robinson is a detective who is unsure whether to believe his brother-in-law's tale in a tour de force of suspense. The solution may seem a bit unlikely, but the trip is great. This is a McCarthy gem that many folks have missed.
